Hi, we’re Butter 👋 The Lego set for modern video and motion graphics.

We started with a simple question: Why does making videos still feel so painful? Most tools are either too complex or too limiting. And while AI makes some things faster, it often takes something away — control, originality, humanity.

Butter takes a different approach. Video creation should feel fast, playful, and modular — like building with Legos. You can edit, remix, and evolve your work instead of being stuck with rigid templates or one-off AI outputs.

Today, Butter powers video creation for thousands of brands including Crocs, Netflix, and Pinterest, as well as global artists like Blackpink and Future.

We’re a small team of builders, creatives, and engineers obsessed with craft and focused on unlocking more human creativity.

About the Role

As our Founding , you’ll define how Butter works at a structural level.

You’ll design workflows, interaction models, component systems, editing surfaces, and core UX architecture across our creative platform — spanning static design, motion, and video.

Your job is to reduce complexity without reducing power.

You’ll partner closely with engineering to design flexible, scalable systems — not just screens.

Domains You'll Own

• Core editor workflows (canvas, timeline, editing panels)
• Design system and component architecture
• UX consistency across product surfaces
• Feature definition in early product stages

Overall You'll

• Define high-level product concepts and flows.
• Design micro-interactions that simplify complex actions.
• Prototype new interaction patterns.
• Collaborate deeply with engineers on feasibility and constraints.
• Establish reusable UI patterns and system standards.
• Make hard tradeoffs between power and simplicity.

What We're Looking For:

• 5–8+ years designing complex software products

• Experience with editing tools, developer tools, or other high-complexity systems • Strong systems thinking — not just surface-level UI • Comfortable prototyping and iterating quickly • Can explain tradeoffs clearly and defend design decisions

Bonus: • Experience working on video editing, design, or no-code products.

• Ability to speak engineering fluently
