About the Role

As our Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll design and shape the systems that make Butter fast, reliable, and a joy to build on. You will lead our move to Infrastructure-as-Code, and improve the performance and operability of our distributed architecture — including the GPU-powered headless browser pipelines that drive our rendering workflows.

You’ll help create the internal tools and developer experience frameworks that allow other engineers to move quickly. You’ll be the person who makes complex systems feel simple, maintainable, and scalable.

As part of our early team, you’ll have the space to explore, architect, and refine. If you care deeply about elegant systems, thoughtful abstractions, and empowering others to do their best work, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

• Scope and spearhead our migration to Infrastructure-as-Code

• Support and evolve the infrastructure and architecture powering Butter’s core features — primarily working with Typescript, AWS, headless browser systems, and hardware-accelerated distributed computing.

• Design APIs that abstract away complexity and empower engineers to iterate and ship quickly

• Own and design observability, tooling, stability, and performance—continually improving our deployment systems, release process, and feature flag systems.

• Lead our exploration into profiling and optimizing GPU utilization in headless environments to push the limits of rendering and video performance in the browser.

• Take ownership of key infrastructure areas, serving as the gatekeeper for questions of performance and reliability.

• Regularly participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and efforts to improve engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience designing, building, and scaling distributed systems, with a strong track record of leading or heavily contributing to large-scale infrastructure initiatives • You’re experienced with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools and workflows (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK)

• Experience with GPU utilization in headless browsers is a plus.

• You've worked on large, complex codebases and understand how to improve systems to make them easier to understand, debug, and maintain.

• You're passionate about building tools and systems that make other engineers more productive and strive to make them elegant and maintainable.

• You’re pragmatic, motivated by nebulous problems, and excited to work in a startup environment with quick product validation cycles.
